Stress Management, Pain Management,
Hypnosis, and Meditation:
Life today is stressful. It has been demonstrated that chronic stress can lead to a variety of problems such as depression, increased hostility, physical illness and exhaustion. Stress takes a toll that we often only see in hindsight. There are simple tools that you can learn to decrease your body's stress response as well learning how to relax (something we have not been taught to do). At the Life Center for Growth and Healing we offer a diversity of methods to distress and relax. These include meditation, relaxation training, and self-hypnosis.
Many Individuals suffer from chronic pain whether from illness, injury, or a degenerative condition. Being burdened by chronic pain saps your resources for enjoying life, let alone even being able to cope with life's demands. Chronic pain frequently initiates a depression and that can lead to still other health and emotional problems. We take a whole person approach to helping clients manage chronic pain by teaching them strategies and techniques for dealing with the pain, ways of optimizing health and wellbeing, and if necessary facing and coping with limitations that the pain condition forces upon the individual.
Hypnosis is a relaxed, inwardly directly state of attention. In the hypnotic state it is possible to better access the mind/body's innate and unconscious resources for growth and healing. We frequently teach self-hypnosis and guided visualization to help clients deal with stress, pain, and improve mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
At the Life Center we work to help you improve the quality of your life. Beyond the goals of relaxation and coping with stress, pain, and illness we believe that there is more to life than surviving day to day. Meditation is a systematic method of training attention so that we become more awake, more aware, and more alive in each moment of our lives. Meditation is one pathway for enhancing wellness but more importantly for facilitating mental, emotional and spiritual growth and wholeness.
Most of us sleepwalk through our day-to-day routine. We are frequently doing one thing, (or several things) while our mind is off busy thinking or worrying about something else. We eat without tasting, drive without really paying attention, talk with others while our mind is moving a thousand miles an hour. Meditation can help us slow down our lives by expanding our moment-to-moment awareness during all of our activities. Meditation helps us to be present for our life rather than having our mind always busy on getting through this moment and in a hurry to get to the next thing or goal or experience. Meditation helps us feel more in charge of our lives instead of feeling that we are just being furiously carried away by the current of perpetual motion. We teach meditation individually and in groups to help people learn to train their attention and enhance their everyday living regardless of what life throws your way. Learning relaxation, stress management, self-hypnosis and meditation skills all work synergistically to improve health, well-being, and quality of life.
