Life Transitions and Relationship Stress:
Today we are faced with Life and job changes that shake our routines and add to the stress we must cope with on a daily basis. Getting married, becoming separated/divorced, becoming a parent, starting college, facing an empty nest, losing a partner all tremendously impact us. All relationships go through tough times, but there are instances were the tension and frustration can threaten the health and longevity of the relationship itself. Even the transitions from one life phase to another can bring stress and inner turmoil. For example, the transition to middle age frequently initiates re-evaluation of the level of satisfaction in relationships and work. It can be a time for reflection and a catalyst for personal growth and self-awareness. Any and all of these transitions and stresses cannot only affect us but often affect the people to whom we are close.
At the Life Center we view these transitions, stresses, and crises as opportunities for personal growth and healing of current and past issues so that we may achieve greater life satisfaction and an increased sense of personal empowerment. Additionally the meaning we attach to these events can powerfully influence our future life direction.
Today it is hard for many couples to make the time and effort to keep their relationship alive and flourishing. Being too busy, too caught up in the whirlwind of our lives, we often neglect our significant relationships. Further, many people have issues with intimacy and difficulty in communicating effectively and in resolving conflicts. Couples therapy can help you both grow into a more loving, intimate, and satisfying relationship.
